Nine revision total knee arthroplasties (TKA) performed between 1999 and 2002 were studied. Seven patients had osteoarthritis and 2 patients had rheumatoid arthritis. The mean interval from initial surgery to revision TKA was 6 years 8 months (range, 10 months-11years) .The most common reasons for failure were loosening (7 cases), ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene wear (1 case), and instability (1 case) . A number of factors, such as surgical technique, materials and design of the prosthe-sis, patients' activity, infection, and metal allergy have been shown to cause failure. The selection of operative method should consider the morbid state of each case.
