Abstract
The merits of laser surgery in head and neck tumor include a slight contraction of the muscles, a minimal bleeding, and the clear wound after laser surgery. The laser therapy of malignant tumor has several advantages including a shorter period of treatment than radiation therapy and no induction of the second carcinoma.
How to use of the laser therapy for malignant tumor of head and neck is single treatment or combination treatment (laser and radiation). The single therapy of the laser is good indication for cancer of tongue and oral cavity (T1, early T2), and laryngeal cancer especially glottis (Tis, T1a).
They are not a difference of prognosis between laser therapy and radiation therapy. However, the operations have to pay a careful attention to side effects of laser beams.
