Abstract
Optical trapping of dielectric particles with a single laser beam is called “optical tweezers”. This technique is based on the concept of negative light pressure due to a gradient force. Trapping in water has been observed for macromolecules, colloids, biological particles and cells over the entire range of particle size from 10 p m to 20nm.Application of this trapping method to cell physiology and cell biology is described.
