Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the changes of tissue temperature by CO2 laser irradiation. Laser beam (various power and Otterns) was applied to the tongue and the vocal cord of mongrel dogs by means of handpiece or microlaryngoscope and the changes of temperature at the tissue (various distance from irradiation point) were recorded simultaneously by the digital thermometer (DTM-900). The results are as follows: The temperature was below 45°C at the 2 mm distance or over from the irradiation point and the tissue damage is almost irreversible. The temperature was over 70°C at the 1 mm distance or below from the irradiation point the tissue is vaporized or the thermal denaturation of the tissue protein occurs.
