Abstract
Following the method recommended by Ogawara, one length and 3 widths were mea-sured do 1542 males of 20-49 age group residing in Tokyo. Thus, 3 longitudinal nasal base indeces and 3 transversal nasal base indices, 6 in total, were obtained, from which a nasal base formula was derived. For the sake of convenience, the materials were divided into 3 age groups, and the morphological transition of nasal base by age was traced. As the results, it was clarified that, as the age progresses, the width of nasal ground and ala nasi become larger compared with the length of the nasal base, and that the width of nasal base becomes wider compared with the width of ala nasi and the foremost tip of ala nasi. Further, various morphological aspects of nose were discussed from the angles of bottom and side views. In addition, morphology of nasal base of 1015 male and female school children, specifically of its indices and nasal base formula, was discussed, clarifying that the nasal base formula of these school children also demonstrate the standard nasal base formula of adult, and that no change in the nasal type by age is existing.
By the above reason, the author claims that the morphology of nose is easily formulated by means of this nasal base formula, thus makes it significant to the anthropological studies.
