Utilizing fertilized hens' eggs, the authors investigated the influences of carbon tetrachloride on the liver of chick embryo.
Various changes in the liver of chick embryo induced by the injection of carbon tetrachloride alone became more distinct as the incubation period progressed from the initial stage to the terminal stage of incubation.
In the case of one single injection of 0.02 cc of carbon tetrachloride, only the irregularity of the arrangement of hepatic cells and vacuolar degeneration of hepatic cells of mild degree were observed. However, with 0.05 cc of carbon tetrachloride, connective tissue appeared in the interstitium, and round cells infiltration was observed in Glisson's capsules, and further, the connective tissue was found proliferated. On the other . hand, round cells infiltration was observed around the blood vessels and central veins. Further, necrosis of mild degree was also noticed. In the case of one injection of 0.1 cc, the above changes were found more distinct, and the arrangement of hepatic cells was extremely irregular.
With two injections of 0.05 cc of carbon tetrachloride alone, various changes became further more distinct. The connective tissue in the interstitium appeared moderately; Glisson's capsules were thickened due to proliferation of connective tissue ; perivascular round cells infl, tration was found more distinct. The arrangment of hepatic cells was found very irregular, and distinct z retrogressive degeneration was also observed.
In short, the authors successfully induced distinct hepatic disturbances due to carbon tetrachloride experimentally also in chick embryo.

There have been numerous works on saliva in the past. The author estimated the contents of glucose in saliva collected separately from parotid gland, submaxillary gland and sublingual gland following the method of separate collection of saliva devised by Prof. Umemoto of Osaka Dental College.
As regards the estimation method for glucose in saliva, the author modified the estimation method for blood sugar by Fujita and Iwatake to devise a micro-method for estimation which is described in the present paper. By means of the, method devised by the author, small amount of glucose can precisely be estimated, though 'it is not satisfactory for the glucose content exceeding 60 mg %.
Similar estimations were performed with samples from sublingual gland and submaxillary gland, but almost no reduction values were obtainable.

In view of the results of previous works performed in our laboratory, the authors systematically investigated the cardiac actions of aromatic aldehydes, especially of vanillin and salicylaldehyde against frog, and the influences of taurin and glycocoll on it.
    1) The inhibition of cardiac movement induced 'by vanillin is not evidently influenced by taurin.
    2) The inhibition of cardiac movement induced by vanillin is not evidently influenced by glycocoll.
    3) The inhibition of cardiac movement induced by salicylaldehyde is also not evidently affected by taurin.
    4) Also in the case of the mixture of vanillin and salicylaldehyde, almost no effect was exercised by taurin.

The authors investigated the cardiac action of piperonal and benzaldehyde and the influences of taurin on it.
Approximately similar tendencies have been demonstrated by piperonal and benzaldehyde to that demonstrated by vanillin and salicylaldehyde. Though the cardiac action of the former two seemed to be affected by taurin occasionally, the effect is not remarkable. Further, no promoting action of taurin on the cardiac movement of extirpated frog heart in any cases within the dilution range with Ringer's solution employed in the present works.

The authors investigated the effects of vanillin and salicylaldehyde on the extirpated frog heart intoxicated by quinine and chloralhydrate.
The extirpated frog heart intoxicated by chloralhydrate or quinine could not be recovered by vanillinn and salicylaldehyde despite their various concentrations. Moreover, at the concentration of quinine or chloralhydrate where no effects are noted when either of them are applied alone, even the proper cardiac movement inhibitory action of vanillin or salicylaldehyde was observed.

Congenital anal atresia is a malformation which is fairly frequently encountered in the clinic. Recently, the authors happened to fall upon a case of simple anal atresia and a case of complicated vesical anal atresia accompanied by female spurious hermaphrodism in the Department. Therefore, the cases are reported and discussed in the present paper for the purpose of comparative considerations.
Most cases of simple anal atresia or complicated anal atresia are usually first diagnosed on the occash, n when the clinical symptoms of ileus have appeared. Plastic operation for the case of simple anal atresia, and artificial anus for the case of complicated vesical anal atresia was indicated. Surgical treatment of plastic operation of anus was performed on these cases 4 months after the first operations.
In the case of vesical anal atresia, the fact that it was accompanied by female spurious hermaphrodism was discovered during the second operation. Therefore, a review on the embryological pathology of complicated anal atresia was attempted, and discussions were made on the genesis of hermaphrodism with reference to the past literatures on the subject.

A case, principally complaining of induration in the upper abdomen, and later, complaining of pain in the same site and fever, was admitted in the Hospital. Laparotomy was performed with the suspicion on liver abscess and suppurative lesions involving liver, thereby a tumour of liver was recognized. The case became fatal 10 days after the operation. A post mortem examination revealed the presence of cholangitis, multiple liver abscess and necrotic lesions in the liver in addition to hepatora. Referring to the microstopical findings, descriptions were made on the natures of the hepatoma. Cases of multiple necrotic lesion in liver is relatively infrequent in number, therefore, the case was considered to be of great interest specifically in the point that it was accompanied by hepatoma. The authors considered that this is a case of hepatic abscess due to cholangitis and that, histologically, this is a genuin multiple necrotic lesion of liver.

Following the method recommended by Ogawara, one length and 3 widths were mea-sured do 1542 males of 20-49 age group residing in Tokyo. Thus, 3 longitudinal nasal base indeces and 3 transversal nasal base indices, 6 in total, were obtained, from which a nasal base formula was derived. For the sake of convenience, the materials were divided into 3 age groups, and the morphological transition of nasal base by age was traced. As the results, it was clarified that, as the age progresses, the width of nasal ground and ala nasi become larger compared with the length of the nasal base, and that the width of nasal base becomes wider compared with the width of ala nasi and the foremost tip of ala nasi. Further, various morphological aspects of nose were discussed from the angles of bottom and side views. In addition, morphology of nasal base of 1015 male and female school children, specifically of its indices and nasal base formula, was discussed, clarifying that the nasal base formula of these school children also demonstrate the standard nasal base formula of adult, and that no change in the nasal type by age is existing.
By the above reason, the author claims that the morphology of nose is easily formulated by means of this nasal base formula, thus makes it significant to the anthropological studies.
