Influences of Carbon Tetrachloride on the Liver of Chick Embryo

Abstract
Utilizing fertilized hens' eggs, the authors investigated the influences of carbon tetrachloride on the liver of chick embryo.
Various changes in the liver of chick embryo induced by the injection of carbon tetrachloride alone became more distinct as the incubation period progressed from the initial stage to the terminal stage of incubation.
In the case of one single injection of 0.02 cc of carbon tetrachloride, only the irregularity of the arrangement of hepatic cells and vacuolar degeneration of hepatic cells of mild degree were observed. However, with 0.05 cc of carbon tetrachloride, connective tissue appeared in the interstitium, and round cells infiltration was observed in Glisson's capsules, and further, the connective tissue was found proliferated. On the other . hand, round cells infiltration was observed around the blood vessels and central veins. Further, necrosis of mild degree was also noticed. In the case of one injection of 0.1 cc, the above changes were found more distinct, and the arrangement of hepatic cells was extremely irregular.
With two injections of 0.05 cc of carbon tetrachloride alone, various changes became further more distinct. The connective tissue in the interstitium appeared moderately; Glisson's capsules were thickened due to proliferation of connective tissue ; perivascular round cells infl, tration was found more distinct. The arrangment of hepatic cells was found very irregular, and distinct z retrogressive degeneration was also observed.
In short, the authors successfully induced distinct hepatic disturbances due to carbon tetrachloride experimentally also in chick embryo.
