Statistical observation was carried out on 8, 726 cases of ski-injury experienced till the skiing season in 1961, both at Akakura skiing ground from the end of December, 1956 and Ishiuchi-Maruyama skiing ground from the end of December, 1957.
Results were as follows:
(1) The incidence of injury was different between the two places, showing the percentage of 0.7 at Akakura and 1.2 at Ishiuchi-Maruyama.
(2) The incidence was higher in men than women and in the age of two decades than others.
(3) The incidence of the spain of knee-joint and ankle joint stood in the first, next were the fracture of ankle, fracture of leg and incised wound of hand and leg in descending order.
(4) The injured were found in great number among the biginners, especially among those who did not have enough sleep.
(5) Ther ewere the two peaks of incidence, the one at 11.00 a. m. and the other at 3.00 p, m. and the most of injuries broke out about 3 hours after the biginning of skiing.
(6) The most of injuries were occured on the slopes with less crowded skiers.
(7) When the nature of snow was nice and hard, the sprain, contusion and incised wounds were numerous, while fractures were frequent when it was heavy. About bindings, those who wore wire-style binding had got injured by overhelming majority, but also those who wore the safty-binding had frequently got injured.
