The effects of some hormones, nucleotides and allopurinol on RNA synthesis were investigated in Shay granulocytic sarcoma.
Prednisolone stimulated in vitro and in vivo synthesis of RNA in granulocytic sarcoma cells. Manifest effects of androgens, estrogen and thyroid hormones on RNA synthesis were not observed. The adminstration of insulin caused an increase in the incorporation of 3H-uridine into RNA.
ATP accelerated the synthesis of RNA. Cyclic AMP did not stimulate RNA synthesis, but it had slight stimulatory effects on protein synthesis.
Allopurinol accelerated the incorporation of 32P orthophosphate into RNA, but did not the incorporation of 14C-adenosine into RNA. It was suggested that allopurinol accelerated the utilization of xanthine and hypoxanthine in RNA synthesis.
