A STUDY OF PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING FOR NEUROLOGICAL PATIENTS THROUGH HOME CARE

Abstract
Tokyo Metropolitan Neurological Hospital has begun home care service since 1974 for neurological intractable patient. This study was epidemiologically researched concerning public health nursing of 43 cases of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis within the intractable patients (347 cases) through the home care service. The author collected to analysis data of medical and public health nursing records and hearing particularly. The results are following, 1) 29 cases of 43 Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis cases were death case in this data. And, such 29 death cases showed sex ratio (males : female) 1.69, average age of onset 52.7 years old, and bulbar sign of initial symptoms 20.9%. 2) The average duration of survibed life from onset was 4.4 years. And also, the death cases which had provided adequated home care showed the longer average duration. 3) Such medical home care and public health nursing was proved much more effectiveness for the sake of utilizing hospital beds and promoting wellfare of patient and family. 4) The home care and public health nursing has been developed through organized community efforts, specially Tokyo Metropolitan Neurological Hospital services. 5) It was significantly important for author to evaluate the home care system of neurological intractable disease included other chronic-progressive patient, bedridden elder person and physically handicapped person had much more effectiveness.
