Abstract
Meniscus ganglion is an uncommon disease. We reported two cases. Case 1: a 29-year-old male, medial meniscus ganglion in the right knee joint. Case 2: a 40-year-old famale, lateral meniscus cyst in the left knee joint.
In Japan 73 cases have been reported as far as we examined. Of those 73 cases only 54 have been recorded in detail. W e examined those 54 cases with our two cases. Male cases were 34 and femals 22, The age ranged from 6 to 57. In 37 cases they located on lateral meniscus, in 19 cases on medial meniscus. 16 cases had the history of the trauma. 27 cases had none and 13 cases were not clear whether they had trauma or not. The meniscus ganglion is operated by three methods; extirapation of both cyst and meniscus, extirpation of a part of meniscus and extirpation of cyst only. In 38 patients both cyst and meniscus were extirpated. In one patient cyst with a part of meniscus was extirpated. In 5 patients only cyst was extirpated, In 12 patients had no records of the methods. None of the patients had a relapse. We think that the best radical operation is to extirpate both cyst and meniscus.
