Abstract
Hybrid material is new medical materials which have good strength derived from artificial materials and good biocompatibility derived from biotissue. Previous studies demonstrated that hybrid material had good biocompatibility. Under blood environment, it could also prevent thrombus formation without any antithrombotic therapy for more than 90 days. The purpose of this research is to establish a sterilization method of the hybrid material. The samples of hybrid material were obtained by implanting polyester velour inserted in a acrylic resin mold under the skin of goats. Then, they were freeze-dried. The sterilization methods were autoclave, dry heat, EOG, hydrogen peroxide gas plasma, and gamma beam sterilization. In addition, one sample was sterilized by gamma beam without freeze-drying. In total, six kinds of samples were tested. We observed physical shape and structural change using FE-SEM. Furthermore, we cultured vascular endothelial cell on the materials to investigate biocompatibility and cell adhesive property. Gamma beam sterilization without freeze-drying demonstrated the best result that vascular endothelial cell engrafted most on a sample.
