Abstract
Uterine cancer is the sixth most common cancer in women worldwide, with 320,000 new cases diagnosed in 2012. Segmentation and 3D surface rendering (SR) visualization analysis of the anatomical structure of uterus and fibroids for analyze the necessary information required in the surgery is essential to references process in the surgery planning and medical study. Objective of this study is to develop uterus 3D modeling based on the analysis result of segmentation and 3D visualization from the experts. Our method consists of four part; 1. Semi-automatic segmentation 2. 3D surface rendering model 3. Convert surface rendering model into STL format for printing using 3D printer 4. Uterus 3D modeling output (3D printing). Our approach can provide the satisfied segmentation results and generate natural 3D views to show the uterus structures from a different direction, scaling and allow operators to adjust the transparency to see the structures of the uterus clearly. SR visualization and 3D modeling output could significantly reduce the time for surgical planning of uterine fibroids in comparison to sagittal images (2D), and this phenomenon was especially prominent in less-experienced gynecologist.
