It is known that beta-adrenergic bronchodilators result in transient hypoxemia. Although this has been regarded due to the pulmonary vasodilation which causes ventilation-perfusion inequality, I hypothesized that the bronchodilation might alter oxygen transport, and performed 2-second inspiratory airflow simulation by computational fluid dynamics by the use of a 4D lung model from the trachea to alveoli. The results indicated that oxygen concentrations at respiratory bronchioles were reduced by 40% in average with the small-airway dilation in spite that the large-airway dilation little changed it.
