There are some services that utilize pyroelectric motion sensors to monitor home of the elderly living alone. For example, when only few motions are detected during morning, the system automatically alerts to the remote monitoring station that some kind of anomaly may have occurred. In this research, such motion sensor data were accumulated and analyzed the relationship with frailty related measures that reflect locomotion syndrome or mild cognitive impairment. It was found that mean in-home activity calculated from the motion sensor data relates to OEOLST (Open Eye One Leg Stand Test) and MMSE (Mini-Mental State Examination) scores. Also, the outing frequency computed based on the motion data showed relation with Stand Up Time, FAST (Functional Assessment Staging) GDS (Geriatric Depression Scale), and IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living score). Based on these findings, the necessity and feasibility of longitudinal study of large number of the solitary elderly to develop daily-life health monitoring and anomaly prediction are confirmed.
