Abstract
Treadmill is used in training of running, rehabilitation and so forth. However, muscular active mass in running on treadmill is less than actual running. Therefore, running on treadmill is unsatisfactory to train for actual running and rehabilitation. The purpose of this study is development of new treadmill makes muscle act same level compared with actual running. The hypothesis was set that muscular active mass is increased by running on a softness object, since power to kick up the ground is needed. According to this hypothesis, the belt of treadmill was pasted gel sheet (0 of Ascar C hardness, made in urethane). Four subjects ran at 7 km/h for 3 minutes on this treadmill pasted gel sheet and conventional treadmill. Electromyogram (EMG) of gastrocnemius and biceps femoris muscle was measured during this experiment. As the results, muscular active mass was increased in running on the treadmill pasted gel sheet compared with a conventional treadmill. Moreover, accelerometers were fitted on foot joints of these subjects and load cells were fitted under the four struts of the treadmill. Joint Forth was calculated during running on the treadmill pasted gel sheet.
