Deep body thermometer based on dual-heat-flux method may be an ideal alternative to the invasive thermometers. We proposed a new component, peripheral aluminium ring (PAR), to improve its accuracy and stability relative to the change of ambient environment.
The capability of this new design was first validated by 3D simulation. It suggests that the adoption of PAR will bring obvious improvement to the accuracy. Thermometer with 15.0 mm in height (standard type) can get an accuracy less than 0.3℃ and thermometer with 9.0 mm in height (thin type) can get an accuracy less than 0.4℃ under 25℃ ambient temperature. Both thermometers were validated in a thermostatic chamber of the same ambient condition. In the trials, both the thermometers with and without PAR were tested. The quantitative relations are the same as the results of simulation. Thermometers with PAR gave superior accuracies to the original design, with error less than 0.1℃ for the standard type and about 0.4℃ for the thin type.
Even though the design should also be examined by in-vivo experiment, it is believed that it shall be an important step to practicalize this noninvasive deep body thermometer.
