Tinnitus affects 10-20% of the population, and in 5% or more of affected individuals, tinnitus is severe enough to impair daily life. Much research has been conducted regarding the treatment of tinnitus, but unfortunately, very few effective treatments have been reported. In this study, we detected tinnitus and attempted to reduce or eliminate it using a sound source supplemented with phase conversion.
In a previous study, we reported that the preliminary study showed that additional sound used as a neuronal excitation impulse signal may influence brainstem coding and the classification of the degree of impairment in hearing ability, conducted during the subject test. In the present study, we report how we increased the number of subjects, and in addition to classification by degree of hearing impairment, we also classify subjects by degree of tinnitus severity, and perform additional investigation of its significance.
This study has major potential to be clinically applied as a novel treatment for tinnitus. Approval for this study was obtained from the Kitasato University Ethics Review Committee.
