Necessity of Traceability in International Recycling

Abstract

Recyclable wastes destined to developing countries are often recycled without environmentally unsound technology and cause pollution problem. A part of traded recyclables may be dumped without proper treatment. To ensure the sound treatment of traded recyclables, traceability systems have been designed as pilot project or have been established. This paper reviews the necessity of establishing traceability in international trade of recyclables and the measures to ensure the traceability.
