The paper presents the investigation of residents’ behavior of discharging generated waste and evaluation of their willingness on organic waste separation for composting in the municipality of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The study was conducted by a questionnaire survey with a total sampling size of 81 establishments—restaurant, hotel, university canteen and eating stall—in the four populated urban districts. Generated waste is commonly stored in a plastic bag (87%), plastic bag with basket (7%) and container (6%). The waste is generally discharged one time a day, with irregular discharge time, into the bin or on the ground at collection point (51%), on the ground along the street (28%) and other means (21%). Residents’ knowledge on composting was found to be low—59% of the business owners did not know at all about composting. However, their willingness in cooperating on organic waste separation for composting was relatively high (63%). It has seen that composting project is possibly executable but proper planning for waste discharge and collection is necessary.
