Driven totally by economic incentive, informal recycling sectors in developing countries produce secondary resources and highly contribute to reducing consumption of natural resources and disposal of municipal solid waste. Junk buyer as a primary collector plays a significant role in recovering recyclables in urban areas in Vietnam. This study revealed through interview survey to approximately 900 junk buyers in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang in Vietnam that junk buyers succeeded to migrate from their hometown and continued to be engaged in junk buying in the cities due to supports of their friends and relatives who had already been engaged in junk buying in the cities, as well as their husbands who took care of their children in the hometown.
