Recently, United States and other developed countries are using Bioreactor landfill to maximize the generation rate of landfill gas and to stabilize landfill prematurely. The bioreactor landfill is a method of decomposing organic waste in the landfill by recognizing the landfill as a giant bioreactor. The influence factors for the decomposition of organic waste are water content, toxic substances, oxygen concentration, etc. and water content is one of the most important factors. Most bioreactor landfills lead to the decomposition of waste by injecting leachate into the wastes above the landfill through leachate recirculation. Therefore, the residence time of leachate in the landfill is a very important factor, and the residence time can be decided by Darcy’s law with the hydraulic conductivity of the landfill. Since wastes are compressed by its self-loading, the bulk density is increased as decreasing the hydraulic conductivity. Therefore, the hydraulic conductivity in the landfill may be different depending on the depth . In order to evaluate the residence time of leachate, bulk density and hydraulic conductivity due to consolidation of waste were examined.
