Abstract

This study focuses on the possibility of oceanic reuse as a solution for the large amount of concrete waste generated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Earthquake. Multiple scenarios were established and analyzed through a comparison of their lifecycle CO2 and lifecycle costs to determine the effectiveness of utilization. The three scenarios examined were Scenario 1: the traditional method of reusing waste as roadbed materials, Scenario 2: the new oceanic utilization of mound reef blocks, and Scenario 3: the new oceanic utilization of sea-bottom cavity filling materials. Results indicate that combining traditional reuse methods with oceanic utilization can reduce processing costs and time for concrete waste generated by disasters, making oceanic utilization an effective reuse option. Additionally, the results of the study including the blue carbon effect of the mound reef blocks will be reported in part 2 of the report.
