High-speed diesel engines for motor vehicles and construction machineries are required sound reduction and good sound quality along with high performance and clean exhaust gas emission. In order to produce the good engine sound, it is important that engineers estimate the engine sound and evaluate it in the early design phase. This paper presents a theoretical approach to estimate the time history of engine sound and an evaluation approach of engine sound quality using wavelet transform.
