Abstract
While the contact rotating systems are operating, the periodic polygonal deformation patterns are often formed on the peripheral surfaces of rolls due to viscoelastic deformation, plastic deformation, cutting, grinding, wear and so on. Such phenomena are called pattern formation phenomena. The phenomena are caused by the unstable vibration generated in the time delay system. In the previous reports, the authors suggested a simplified method to analyze the pattern formation phenomena and formulated a simplified criterion for the stability analysis. In this report, concepts of optimum design method are applied to design system parameters for generalized model efficiency. The validity of the present method is confirmed from the numerical computational results.
