The finite element method (FEM) based on the Timoshenko's beam theory has three basic problems as follows : (1) It is inferior in accuracy compared with the FEM based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. (2) As the beam becomes thinner, the shear term is more significant than the bending term (called shear locking phenomenon). (3) As the thick of the beam approaches zero, the stiffness matrix becomes unstable numerically. The authors propose a new interpolation function of solving these three problems in this paper.
