Abstract
Experimental investigation into the dynamic behavior of vibration system with granular materials has been carried out using forced vibration system with one degree of freedom. Results from the experimental tests indicate that the vibration systems containing granular materials show the vibration damping characteristics. We measured vibration response under several foundations' acceleration conditions. Vibration tests were performed on various types of conditions for the granular materials. The mass and diameter of the granular materials were changed as the parameters. The experimental tests indicate that the damping ratio increases when the mass of the granular materials increases. And then at the optimum mass of granular materials, damping ratio shows maximum value. Furthermore, we proposed the concept of "additional mass" of granular materials. The damping effect is discussed in relation to this "additional mass".
