The magnetic damper in this paper is based on the Lorentz force by Fleming's left-hand rule. That is to say, the direction of the force is the opposite of that of the relative velocity between the conductor and the magnet, and moreover, the directions of the velocity and that of the magnetic field are at right angle with each other. The magnetic damper we propose is composed of a ball magnet and a conductor that has a unique shape that a semispherical-shell is combined with a hollow cylinder. The magnetic damper has some good points that the space for a damper-mechanism can be small, and it can have the possibilities to improve damping capacity. We report the simplified damping tests to two kinds of this magnetic damper.
