A new energy regenerative and active control vibration damper is introduced. The energy regenerative damper has nonlinear characteristics with dead zone for low speed motion. Hence PWM set-up chopper has been introduced to overcome this problem. But the regenerated energy is not used. A combined control of regenerative and active is proposed in this paper. The optimum control force is calculated using LQ theory and put out to the developed circuit. The PWM switchs are driven in proportion to the difference between the optimum control force and the actuator force. The proposed damper is applied to an active mass damper system. A simple experimental setup is fabricated and tested for the proposed technique. The results show an increase in performance as compared with the previously proposed software controlled regenerative and active control damper.
