The vibration arising on the individual pump shakes whole unit of water supply system, and it causes noise on the unit. The exciting force on the centrifugal pump shall be obtained for calculation of vibration response characteristics of whole unit. In this respect, an experimental examination has been conducted to predict the exciting force at the casing support for a close coupled type centrifugal pump. As a result, the fluctuation of dynamic force acting on the casing support was observed within range between 19 and 41 percent of steady-state thrust force derived from the radial thrust approximation formula. In the mean time, it has been predicted through analysis on frequency and amplitude that the exciting force is influenced by the periodically fluctuating flow due to rotation of impeller in the volute casing.
