Floating bush journal bearings are widely used to support very high speed rotating machineries. The bearing has a thin bush inserted between the journal and the bearing housing. The rotating shaft is supported by two oil films formed in the inner and the outer clearances of the bush, when the lubricating oil is supplied to the bearing. The bearing is widely known to show the peculiar phenomena, that is, the decrease of the bush-to-shaft speed ratio and the disappearance of the oil whip. The effects of the bearing load and the viscosity of the lubricating oil on the phenomena are cleared experimentally.
