We proposed a method to evaluate eingenvalues of a rotor-bearing system using the modal open loop transfer function. We applied the method to a rotor supported by active magnetic bearings(AMBs). The modal damping ratio was measured by using the modal open loop transfer function of the AMB control system. In this paper, the method of deriving a modal open loop transfer function and the method of measuring modal equivalent mass are described. As a result, we concluded that the damping ratio in this method was more accurate than the damping ratio using a conventional open loop transfer function.
