In order to control vibrations of machinery, it is very important to grasp the dynamics characteristic of the systems. Modal analysis is widely used as a basic technology for machine design. Various methods to identify the modal parameters of structures by the vibration test are proposed. Recently, the time domain subspace method has been researched actively. However, it is difficult to overview dynamic properties of structures from time domain data. In this paper, the frequency domain subspace algorithm is employed to identify modal parameters. Two kinds of algorithms are compared in numerical examples. Finally, the identification procedure is applied to a steel plate.
