Abstract
A brush model with the assumption of a quartic or sextic curve is studied. The tire forces and aligning torque are analyzed assuming isotropic or anisotropic elasticity of the brush, and these relations are rearranged to obtain equations for grip margin estimation. These relations are applied to the estimation of the road friction coefficient and verified through numerical simulation using CarSim, apopular vehicle simulation software. The estimation accuracy has been improved relative to that for a conventional quadratic pressure distribution.
