In this investigation, a dynamic modeling procedure for an elastic tire is developed, and experimental validation of the proposed model is demonstrated for modal characteristics and transient responses for cleat run test. The elastic deformation of the tire belt is modeled using the gradient deficient curved beam element using the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF). This approach allows for describing large rotational motion and the nonlinear inertia effect, and does not suffer from locking associated with shear and cross section deformations that appear in the fully parameterized ANCF beam elements. It is shown that good agreements are obtained in the tire natural frequencies and the associated mode shapes. Furthermore, tire acceleration and vertical forces are also in good agreements for cleat run test performed by the tire testing machine developed in this investigation.
