This paper introduces a numerical simulation method for a yarn model, The model is based on the definition of lumped mass points representing the motion of yarn when unwound from a bobbin. The presented model uses both tensile and damping forces to connect the mass points. The elapsed unwinding time and the deformed shape of the yarn are compared to data obtained by a previous method that considers constraint conditions. As a result, the proposed method reduces the computational time by 35% relative to the previous method. Although there are slight differences regarding the tensile force values, the deformed shape of the yarn obtained using these methods are in agreement the experimental results. Moreover, the proposed model is found to be suitable for dynamic analysis of yarn motion.
