Abstract

The occurrence of the low frequency vibration in vibroimpact systems such as vibrating filters and vibratory feeders reduces the reliability of the system and precludes normal operation when its amplitude is excessive. For suppressing the low frequency vibration, this paper investigates the effects of a dynamic absorber on vibration characteristics. The apparatus used in the experiment has two degrees of freedom, where the lower mass is supported by a spring and excited by an external periodic force whose frequency is much higher than the natural frequency of the system. The upper mass bounces on the lower mass under the action of gravity. In this system, the low frequency vibration occurs when the frequency of the external force exceeds a particular value. The dynamic absorber consists of a weight, a leaf spring and damping material. The experimental results demonstrate the change in vibration characteristics of the system due to the dynamic absorber, showing that the dynamic absorber is able to suppress the low frequency vibration.
