This paper describes chatter vibration generated in a thin rectangular plate at end milling. When end milling the thin rectangular plate, the end mill does not vibrate, and chatter vibration is generated in which the rectangular plate deforms in the out-of-plane direction. The frequency of chatter vibration generated is low near the edge of the rectangular plate and high near the center of the rectangular plate. The vibration mode of chatter vibration when the tool position is near the edge of the rectangular plate is the antiphase mode with the tool position as a node. The vibration mode of chatter vibration when the tool position is near the center of the rectangular plate is the in-phase mode in which both ends of the rectangular plate vibrate in the same phase.
