Design information sharing among diverse engineers and early performance evaluation are essential for the efficient design of electromechanical products. To address these issues we have proposed a methodology of rapid design and concurrent engineering using physical representation models based on mainly lumped parameter systems. To facilitate the practice of this method by designers, we have developed a tool that consists of the following three modules: 1. Design Information Editor, 2. Mathematical Simulation Engine, 3. Pre-processor for Design of Experiment (DOE). In this paper, feasibility of this tool is evaluated in the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) development processes including robust design and factorial effects analysis of the actuator parts, and advantages of this tool and effects to improve the design efficiency are reported.
