This paper describes new input devices for wearable computers. An input device for a wearable computer should be light weight, wireless, one-hand operational, and always-on with an appropriate interface software to support efficient input. Six input devices with 3- and 5-degree of freedom (DOF) were fabricated to realize these characteristics. Evaluation experiments were performed, in which a basic focus move in a 2D matrix and a hierarchical file tree was examined. In addition, character input interfaces adfusted for each DOF were investigated in input time and subjective preference. The result revealed that the five-DOF Pen-type device was the fastest and most preferred among the six.
