Abstract
It is well known that the load-deflection curves of the beams composed of thin shells are different from that of the simple beam models when they are deformed by the external force as the thin shells occur the elastic buckling. Thus, the effective width theory about the beam is proposed to estimate the effective width of segments of the beam cross-section. In this report, the applicability of the theory is verified by the comparison with the experimental results. And, the availability and problems is investigated with several configurations of the cross-section of beams.
