Abstract
Products in recent is so large and complex that engineer hardly comprehend whole product system. And, design change occurs continually during development with the change of requirement. Design change makes other changes and propagates further. Theses propagations of change effect are likely to lead to unexpected redesign and make harder to deriver product development project on time and budget. Moreover, most of engineering decisions are limited by output of previous stage. And in many cases, product development is based on the previous project or other existing product. It makes more important to plan design change considering propagation to avoid undesirable effect on product development. However, most previous researches on design change have focused on the prediction how change propagates and how large effect occurs. These researches provided the insight into propagation route and effect, but they could not provide the practical guidance of design change. Therefore, in this research, we are aim at proposing a method that provides the practical guidance of design change with consideration on minimizing the effect. Our propose method based on the constraint network and qualitative reasoning.
