Model based design is commonly used in product design. However, the model based design cannot support upstream phases of design, although they are important. For solving this issue, a design framework “one dimensional CAE (1DCAE)” is proposed. But there are no tools to implement this concept. The purpose of this study is to propose a model to support upstream design phases with incorporating kansei which plays an important role for increasing product value, especially delight. In order to model and simulate the behavior of the product and evaluate kansei in the conceptual design phase, this paper proposes “Product Concept Model.” First we analyze a model of a hair dryer made with modelica and point out some problems. Then, we extract requirements for Product Concept Model, including parts oriented modeling, encapsulating multiple domain models with multiple granularity, enabling kansei evaluation, and ensuring connectivity to other models.
