Abstract
We have developed a new optical door sensor that has a planar detection area with no gap. This sensor has two elongate light sources and two imaging units that are embedded in door posts of an elevator car. The sensor can detect a passenger's finger or a small object and prevent it form being pinched by the doors before door opening and during door closing. Additionally, the elongate light sources blink by red light to alert timings of the door moving to passengers.
