Abstract
We introduced water-silicone oil emulsion as a heat storage material. A coil-shaped tube which was used as a hat exchanger was immersed in a cold temperature bath and the emulsion was circulated in it to make ice continuously. Emulsion was used with an additive, (C_2H_5O)_3SiC_3H_6NH_2). Ice was separated from the formed ice-liquid suspension in an outlet tank. The amount of formed ice and the time history of inlet and outlet temperatures of the heat exchanger were measured and the overall heat transfer coefficient was calculated. Experiments were carried out under various conditions of the flow rate and the cooling temperature. As a result, we found that there were three patterns in ice discharge process from the heat exchanger. (1) Supercooling water was discharged from the heat exchanger and solidified in the outlet tank. (2) Ice was discharge continuously form the heat exchanger. (3) The cooling pipe was choked with formed ice. It was found that ice slurry was able to be formed continuously under the proper conditions of flow rate and cooling temperature.
