The influence of sampling time for residential energy demands on the energy-saving effect of residential cogeneration systems (R-CGS) is analyzed by optimal operational planning based on mixed-integer linear programming. As target R-CGSs, a gas engine with a constant power output operation, a polymer electrolyte fuel cell with a daily start-stop operation, and a solid oxide fuel cell with a continuous operation are focused on. The result reveals that the energy-saving effect of any R-CGS are decreased under short sampling times because the surplus electric power fi・om the R-CGSs and their electric capacity factor are increased and decreased, respectively, due to short-time fluctuations in energy demands. This means that the optimal operational planning employing a long sampling time may overestimate their energy-saving effect. However, for the R-CGSs with a battery, the overestimation of their energy-saving effect is reduced by chargi!lg their surplus electric power.
