The acoustic characteristics of Helmholtz resonator for the application to the supersonic inlet is not understood well. It is necessary to obtain an indicator of the size determination of the resonator against the dimensions of the inlet duct to get the effective noise reduction characteristics. We must know the effect of airflow so that the inlet duct has a role to supply air to the engine. Moreover, the resonator may become a noise source depending on the flow condition. It is necessary to devise a design of the interface between the resonator and the duct. To examine applicability of the resonator to the inlet duct, this study is aimed at clarifying experimentally the influences which the cross-sectional area of the inlet duct, the flow and the form of the interface give to the acoustic characteristics of the resonator.
