Culture of photosynthetic microorganisms that produce oxygen and hydrogen is expected to reduce greenhouse gases and produce alternative energy to petroleum. In the immobilization culture method, by fixing photosynthetic microorganisms to biomass carrier particles (BSPs), cells can be protected and high density culture can be expected. By coating cationic polymer on BSPs, we succeeded to fix more cells to BSPs. This study examines whether microbial cells survive in BSPs using Absorptiometry. In the absorption photometry method, light is allowed to pass through a reagent, and the absorbance of the substances in the reagent is measured. Since the absorbance of the cells changes due to consumption of nitrate ions in the culture solution, the cells in the BSPs Can verify whether it consumes nitrate ions in the culture and survives.
