Abstract
This paper presents new type of sorting system by the magnetically driven microtools (MMT) to separate particles into multiple channels. Two of nickel based MMTs are actuated by commercially available permanent magnets set below the biochip in order to lead the particles to the certain channels by fluid force. The channel and the MMT shapes are determined based on FEM analysis for the particles to flow smoothly. We have successfully achieved to sort φ100 μm microbeads into 7 branched channels. The noncontact drive and the disposable chip lead the less invasive environment for the cell with low cost.
