Darrieus-type vertical-axis wind turbines transform wind energy into mechanical power through the orbital motion of blades around a turbine shaft, called Darrieus motion. In this paper, the aerodynamic properties of a blade in Darrieus motion while in airflow are studied experimentally. For this purpose, we made a wind tunnel model of a straight-bladed Darrieus turbine. We also developed a new strain-gage load cell and a Bluetoothbased wireless telemetry system to measure two force components on the blade of the model turbine. Then, we measured blade forces of the model through wind tunnel tests. Analyzing the measured data, we discussed the dynamic properties of the aerodynamic forces on the blade. Moreover, we found that the power coefficients of the model estimated from the experimental data are in good agreement with those predicted by the single stream tube theory at the tip-speed ratio ranges of 0-0.7 and 1.5 - 1.88.
